The Board of Directors for Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 24 (FBCMUD 24, the District), cares about its residents. While planning and development are essential to the District, communication and education are of equal value. A topic of importance in this regard is Fire Safety. All residents of the District are encouraged to learn about and be aware of ways to keep their homes and families safe.

First and foremost, in the event of an emergency or fire, ALWAYS DIAL 9-1-1.

How can residents stay safe before a fire?

  • Install and regularly check smoke alarms; an early warning system is often the best defense
  • Schedule a Home Safety Survey offered by Fort Bend ESD 7
  • Avoid fire hazards in the home
    • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children
    • Use caution when burning candles or opt for flameless battery-operated candles
    • Use caution when cooking; never leave an active stove or oven unattended
    • Keep space heaters at least three feet from flammable objects
    • Check cords and plugs for damage that could spark a fire
  • Make a fire escape plan for your family and perform regular “fire drills”; include a meet-up point in case you get separated
  • Keep fire extinguishers in the kitchen, bathrooms, and closets; learn how to use them
  • Ensure that all exit points are easily accessible in the event of a fire; remove any items that may block a quick exit such as heavy rugs or bulky furniture
  • Teach your children about fire safety
  • “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!™" with Fire Prevention Week
